Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. - Psalm 1:1-3

OUTREACH WITH LAMP MINISTRIES

The Youth Group has been involved in many different service projects. Now Choices Members have the opportunity to help those in need on a regular basis. Three times each month, the youth assist LAMP Ministries by participating in one of their street outreach programs, called LAMPCafé.

While the name ‘LAMPCafé’ may suggest a quiet coffee shop located someplace far removed from the realities of inner-city life, it is actually just the opposite. The LAMPCafé is a special street ministry that uses a canteen truck to bring to different areas of New York City not only food, but also Scripture readings, Rosaries, and opportunities to pray with LAMP Ministers and Volunteers.

Three Saturdays per month, 4 or 5 young people prepare sandwiches, snacks, soup, and drinks. After saying a prayer together, they head out to the streets of the Bronx, spreading the Good News.

When the LAMPCafé arrives, people are often waiting on the corner. The people their range from young to old, but they all share the one thing in common, which is a sense of gratefulness.

While the people are thankful for the food, more importantly, they are thankful for the conversations that the kids have with them. Pictured below are the young people of Choices following Jesus’ commandment to love one another.

“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” Then the good people will ask him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?” And Jesus will say to them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these people, you did it to me.” - Matthew 25:35-40
